A Tour of Farm Schools in BC
Hands on learning and agriculture go hand in hand. The minute a student tastes the fresh vegetables they've grown themselves they're sold! There are several “Farm Schools” in and around the Fraser Valley that know how vitally important it is for students to experience farming and growing food for themselves. They've built these programs on the premise that the next generation is in great need of knowing where their food comes from.
For the next few months we will be visiting some of these Farm Schools to showcase what they do to get the next generation involved and invested in growing food. These programs are doing precisely what we at BC Agriculture in the Classroom hope that teachers and schools will take up on their own. Not only are these students gaining practical skills and knowledge about agriculture, but they are also learning about subjects directly related to the BC curriculum.
We are so excited to see the enthusiasm and passion that has gotten these projects off the ground, and hope to spread the message of what they do to a greater audience.
