engAGe Vancouver Event Fosters Student Awareness of Agri-Food Careers
Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) has partnered with the BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation (BCAITC) to seed interest in agriculture among Lower Mainland high school students by hosting engAGe Vancouver, a free one-day student event taking place on February 11, 2020 at The Nest at UBC.
Through the thinkAG initiative, the non-profit organizations are planning engAGe Vancouver, a high-energy event for Lower Mainland high school students (grades 9-12) and their teachers to learn about the myriad of career opportunities in Canada’s agri-food sector.
The engAGe Vancouver event will show students that opportunities in agriculture extend well beyond farming and into the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, business, and much more.
“Vancouver is a great place to engage young people in our province's uniquely diverse agri-food sector. We aim to inspire this generation of brilliant and innovative students to pursue challenging and rewarding careers in agriculture. Opportunities in science, technology, business, and trades in the agri-food industry are awaiting skilled young people!” according to Pat Tonn, Executive Director of BCAITC, in launching engAGe Vancouver.
The event will offer captivating guest speakers, inspiring breakout sessions, and an exciting culinary experience. Through these experiential opportunities, students will be guided to discover an innovative, diverse, technologically advanced and fun agriculture and food industry that is unlike anything they may have imagined.
